Installing the Digital Entertainer Express with Custom Setup

Before you begin, determine which type of audio and video cables you need. This depends on your
television and audio equipment.

Video display. The picture display quality is related to the video format you use. If your
television supports multiple formats, choose the format that provides the best picture quality.
HDMI offers the best picture quality video. Component video provides the next best quality,
followed by SCART, S-Video, and composite video. If you are viewing high-definition video,
it will play with whichever video cable you connect, but the video quality will be best with
HDMI.

You can install the Digital Entertainer Express with the composite video cable in the package
and change later to a different cable if your television supports it. See

DTS sound or digital audio/visual (a/v) receiver. If you have a digital receiver or you want
DTS sound, use either a coaxial or optical S/PDIF audio cable (sold separately). You will also
need a video cable. You can use the composite video cable included in the Digital Entertainer
Express package, or you can use component video cable (sold separately) or HDMI cable (sold
separately).

SCART television cable (sold separately) is used for both the audio and video
signal.

HDMI

High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) cable (sold separately). If your
television has an HDMI connector, you can use this cable for both the audio and
video signal.

S/PDIF coaxial (audio)

Sony/Phillips Digital Interface (S/PDIF) cable, also called standard RCA type
coaxial cable (sold separately). For the video cable you can use the composite
video cable included in the package, or purchase HDMI or component video
cable separately.

S-Video

S-Video cable (sold separately) connects video and audio.

Component video

Component video cable (sold separately) connects video and audio.

Composite video
(included in the package)

Composite video cable connects video and stereo audio.

S/PDIF optical audio

Sony/Phillips Digital Interface (S/PDIF) for optical cable (sold separately). For
the video cable you can use the composite video cable included in the package,
or purchase HDMI or component video cable separately.
