Configuring the clocking scheme

To configure the clocking scheme for the Passport 8250 device, select the
source for the reference clock, and, if applicable, select the switching option
using the clockconfig command.

The switching methods are the following:

Internal. The clocking scheme is derived from the Passport 8250 device.

External. The clocking scheme is derived from the ATM network off the
ATM uplink port or a T1/E1 port on the Passport 8250. Select one of the
following switching options:

— Fixed. The clocking scheme is fixed permanently to the primary

port. If there is a problem with the primary port, you need to change
to the secondary port using the clockconfig command.

— Automatic switching. The clocking scheme is temporarily fixed to

the primary port. The Passport 8250 automatically switches from the
primary port to the secondary port and, if needed, switches from the
secondary port to internal.

Note: We recommend that you select the device with the lower stratum
clock as the clock source. The Passport 8250 has a stratum 4 clock.

The syntax of the clockconfig command is:

clockconfig [set]
