C (Aperture-Priority Auto) Mode

Set the aperture value and shoot pictures.

Rotate the mode dial to

C.

Rotate the command dial to choose
the aperture value (f/-number).

When the camera is zoomed all the way

out, aperture can be set to values between
f/2.8 and f/8.0; at maximum zoom, aperture
can be set to values between f/5.0 and
f/8.0.

Focus and shoot.

At the default setting, the camera automatically selects

the focus area (one of nine) containing the subject
closest to the camera (

A122).

C (Aperture-Priority Auto) Mode

If the selected aperture would result in the picture being over- or underexposed, the aperture display
will flash when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway. Choose another aperture value and try
again.

Note on Shutter Speed

When Multi-shot 16 is selected for Continuous (

A118) the fastest shutter speed is changed to

1/2500 second, and the slowest shutter speed is restricted to 1/30 second.

Aperture and Zoom

Aperture is expressed as an f-number, which is the ratio of the focal length of the lens to the effective
diameter of the opening (aperture) through which light enters the camera. Large apertures
(expressed by small f-numbers) let more light into the camera, and small apertures (large f-numbers)
let less light. This camera has a lens with a focal length of 4.6-110.4 mm and an aperture of f/2.8 to f/
5. When the camera is zoomed out, the f-number decreases. When the camera is zoomed in, the f-
number increases.
