Taking Pictures of Smiling Faces (Smile Timer)

The camera detects smiling faces using face detection and releases the shutter
automatically.
This can be used when the shooting mode (

A40) is set to A (auto) mode, the

Portrait or Night portrait scene mode, or

A, B, C or D mode.

Press the rotary multi selector

n (self-timer).

The self-timer menu is displayed.

Adjust settings for flash mode, creative slider, exposure

compensation, or items in the shooting menu before
pressing

n.

Use the rotary multi selector to choose
a (Smile timer), and press the

k button.

If the

k button is not pressed within a few seconds, the

selection will be canceled.

Frame the picture.

Point the camera at the subject.

When the camera detects a face, the focus area

containing the face is displayed with a double border.
When the camera focuses on the face, the double
border lights in green for a moment, and the focus is
locked.

Up to three faces can be detected. When more than one face is detected, the face

closest to the center of the frame is framed by a double border and the others by single
borders.

The shutter is automatically released.

When the camera detects a smiling face of the subject framed by the double border,

the shutter is released automatically.

Each time the shutter is released, automatic shooting using face detection and smiling

face detection is repeated.

Shooting ends.

To stop automatic shooting of smiling faces, either turn off the camera or return to step

2 and select OFF.
