High quality.

Passive layer gives

active protection

The simple trick for long life:
when the chrome surface,
either in air or water, reacts
with oxygen, a wafer-thin
protective layer is created,
the so-called “passive layer”.
It consistently repels aggres-
sive substances. In addition,
it has the capability to
regenerate (“self-healing”).
An additional hardening,
a characteristic of all Wiha
stainless steel tools,
reinforces this characteristic.

The secret of stainless steel.

Wiha Stainless Steel.

For perfect fastening and unfastening.

Stainless steel has thankfully become
all-present. Its ascent in the past
decades has been due mainly to
some outstanding qualities:

Durable and versatile

Extremely resilient, corrosion and
acid resistant, weather resistant,
easy to process, hygienic and easy
to maintain – you couldn’t compli-
ment a material more highly.

Pure

This quality reflects the refinement
(superior finish) through the high-
alloy composition of stainless steel
on the one hand. But on the other
hand it also bears witness to its
noble appearance and superb
emanation (fine brilliance).

Conserves resources

Stainless steel can be fully recycled.
This preserves natural resources,
making this quality an essential
feature not just for today but for the
years ahead.

Indispensable

All of these qualities have
made stainless steel a leading
material for maximum quality
requirements for both interior
and exterior applications –
in all sectors and dimensions:
from a single screw to a build-
ing facade, and from the rivet
of a ship to complete ship-
building. For areas with future-
fit technologies such as solar
technology it is unimaginable
to do without it. Stainless steel
also plays a dominant role in
sectors such as automotive
engineering, the food industry
and offshore applications.

Non-rusting

High-grade steel does not have to
comply with the demands made upon
non-rusting steel. And likewise, non-
rusting steel is not categorically high-
grade steel. Decisive for the definition
of stainless steel is the alloying
component of the various types, for
example low-alloy or high-alloy steel.
It is exactly specified for each type.
One thing's for sure: a stainless steel
must contain at least 10.5% chrome.

But rust can also collect even on
stainless steel. The cause: contact
with a “foreign”, i.e. a non-stainless
steel tool. This leaves foreign
particles upon the stainless steel
surface that then rust. This contami-
nating rust is not only a blemish,
but in the form of pitting corrosion
can become a real safety threat.

That's why:

Stainless steel needs

stainless steel tools.

Only with stainless steel tools
is the transfer of foreign particles
and therefore the cause of rust
eliminated.
