LS300 System and Equipment Requirements

The LS300 Auto-Learn is a precision electronic line-leak-detection system that is produced for installation in a
petroleum pumping system. The LS300 does have certain system requirements that must be met in order to ensure
that the system will conduct proper line leak detection. The following information should be reviewed prior to
installation to verify that the system will work properly. For complete installation and operation information on the
LS300, consult the TS-LS300 Auto-Learn User’s Guide.

Approved Fuels

• 0%-100% ethanol or methanol and gasoline
• 20% MTBE with 80% gasoline
• 20% ETBE with 80% gasoline
• 17% TAME with 83% gasoline
Other motor fuels that may be used with this product are Diesel, Avgas, Jet Fuel, or Kerosene. The maximum liquid viscosity for
a product is 70 S.S.U. at 60° F.

Models Available

• The LS300 version console is for use in Intrinsically Safe applications. The transducer communication wires must be

installed in dedicated Intrinsically Safe conduit to the STP sump. (This conduit may also contain ATG probe and sensor
wires)

• The LS300E version console is for use in Explosion Proof applications. The transducer communication wires can be

installed in the same conduit as the STP power wires. This model requires proper conduit and junction boxes from the STP
power junction box to the head of the transducer.

Pipe Volume Restrictions

Maximum pipe lengths are equivalent to:

• 163 gallons (617 liters) in rigid piping systems
• 39.5 gallons (149.5 liters) in flexible piping systems

Pump Pressure Requirements

• Pump “ON” pressure must be greater than or equal to 25 psi.
• A minimum static line pressure of 17.5 psi is needed for the LS300 to perform a 3 gph and 0.2 gph test.
• A minimum static line pressure of 22.5 psi is needed for the LS300 to perform a 0.1gph test.

o FE Petro STP – Use Standard Check Valve
o Red Jacket STP – Must use an Adjustable Functional Element with pressure adjusted to meet the LS300 pressure

requirements. For proper operation, the Adjustable Functional Element must be set at least 2 psi less than the
pump “ON” pressure.

Transducer Cable Requirements

• Belden shielded cable #9363-22AWG, #9364-20AWG, or 9365-18AWG or equivalent.
• Maximum length 500 feet.

Installation Notes

• Each product line must be precision tested and verified free of leaks before installation of the LS300.
• Remove other in-line leak detection equipment before installation of the LS300.
• Existing in-line check valves should be removed before installation of the LS300.

Highly flammable vapors or liquids may be present in the environment in which this equipment is installed or serviced.
Installing or working on this equipment means working in an environment that presents risks of severe injury or death
if instructions and standard industry practices are not followed. Follow all applicable codes governing the installation
and servicing of this product and the entire system. Always lock out and tag electrical circuit breakers while installing
or servicing this equipment and related equipment. Refer to the Installation and Owner’s Manual
of this equipment and
related equipment for complete installation and safety information.
