Prerequisites

Gather the following information:

Serial number, if specifying a storage system that is not registered with XP7 Command View AE.

1.

On the Administration tab, select Virtual Storage Machine.

2.

From the application pane, click Create Virtual Storage Machine.

3.

Enter the name for the virtual storage machine.

4.

Specify the model and serial number by using one of the following:

• Click Select a storage system already registered on CVAE from list and select from the list.
• Click Specify manually and select from the model list, and then enter the serial number.

5.

Specify the storage system in which to create the virtual storage machine.

1.

Click Storage Systems, and then click Add Storage Systems.

2.

Select the storage systems to be added and click OK.

Specifies the storage system and displays the resources in the storage system that can be added
to the virtual storage machine. Resources are organized by resource type, such as parity groups,
LDEV IDs, storage ports, and host group numbers.

6.

Add parity groups.

1.

Click Parity Groups, and then click Add Parity Groups.

2.

Select the parity groups to be added and click OK.

7.

Add LDEV IDs.

1.

Click LDEV IDs, and then click Add LDEV IDs.

2.

Select the LDEV IDs to be added and click OK.

8.

Add storage ports.

1.

Click Storage Ports, and then click Add Storage Ports.

2.

Select the storage ports to be added and click OK.

9.

Add host group numbers.

1.

Click Host Group Numbers, and then click Add Host Group Numbers.

2.

Select the host group numbers to be added and click OK.

10.

Click Submit.

If the task is scheduled to run immediately, the process begins.

11.

(Optional) Check the progress and result of the task on the Tasks & Alerts tab. Click the task
name to view details of the task.

The user-defined virtual storage machine is created and can be viewed in the list of virtual storage
machines.
