Maximum per XP7 storage system: 256 (including BC, BC Z, and Fast Snap (FS)) Consistency groups
Note: You cannot add BC, BC Z, and FS pairs to the same CG.
Maximum BC pairs per CG: 8,192
You can only use CGs that you created using RAID Manager in RAID Manager.
BC licensed capacity and licensed capacity requirements
P-VOLs and S-VOLs must have licensed capacity. The total capacity of pair volumes must be less
than the maximum volume capacity to which you are licensed. Volume capacity is counted only
once, even if you use the volume more than once. You do not need to multiply the capacity by the
number of times you will use it.
After you start performing pair tasks, monitor your capacity requirements to keep volumes’ total
size within your purchased capacity.
You can use BC volumes in pairs for 30 days beyond the date it exceeds the licensed capacity.
Beyond that time frame, you can only delete BC pairs.

Determining capacity of BC pairs in XP7 workflow
Use the following workflow to determine the maximum number of BC pairs that you can create in
your XP7 storage system:
1. Determine the number of differential and pair tables your storage system needs to create BC
pairs:
•
Calculate the number of tables for volumes that have an emulation type other than OPEN-V.
For more information, see “Calculating the number of tables for emulation types that are
not OPEN-V” (page 14) .

Calculate the number of tables for volumes that have OPEN-V emulation types.
For more information, see “Calculating the number of tables for OPEN-V emulation types”
(page 14) .
•
Query the number of differential tables required to create Business Copy (BC/SS) pairs.
For more information, see “Determining the number of tables required for Business Copy”
(page 15) .
NOTE: These calculations assume that you are only using BC in the system.
