In case of an L1 pair, you can use 0, 1 or 2 as an MU number. In case of an L2 pair, you

can use 1 or 2 as an MU number.

Number of S-VOLs per one P-VOL

You can assign up to three S-VOLs to one P-VOL when creating an L1 pair. When creating an

L2 pair (leaf pair), you can assign up to two S-VOLs to one P-VOL. However, you cannot assign

two or more P-VOLs to one S-VOL.

Maximum number of pairs

Up to 16,384 Business Copy pairs can be created (when P-VOLs and S-VOLs are in a one-to-one

relationship). If the LUSE volumes are included in Business Copy pairs, the maximum number of

pairs decreases.

Even if the above requirements are fulfilled, the following volumes cannot be used for creating Business

Copy pairs.

Journal volumes of Continuous Access Journal

Virtual volumes (except XP Thin Provisioning volumes)

Pool volumes

For details about combining volume of XP Snapshot pair and volume of Business Copy pair, see the HP

StorageWorks XP24000 Snapshot User’s Guide.

Business Copy Software Requirements

To use Business Copy, all storage system hardware, microcode, and software required for Business

Copy operations must be installed and enabled. You also need to purchase a license key for Business

Copy and install it on the storage system. For detailed information about the license key and software

installation, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Remote Web Console User’s Guide.
Note that you must operate the Remote Web Console in modify mode to perform Business Copy

operations. Users in view mode can only view Business Copy information, but they cannot create new

pairs or change the pair status. For information about how to set up and use the Remote Web Console

computer, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Remote Web Console User’s Guide.

License Requirements

Business Copy license capacity will be required for Business Copy P-VOLs, S-VOLs, and reserved volumes.

In addition, P-VOLs and pool volumes that are used by XP Snapshot will require the Business Copy license

capacity. You need to make sure that the Business Copy license capacity will be larger than the total

capacity of these volumes when you decide the Business Copy license capacity.
Even when a volume is used for multiple purposes, only the capacity of this volume itself is added to

the total volume capacity, and there is no need to multiply the capacity of this volume by the number of

purposes it is used for. In other words, even if you, for example, specify a volume as an S-VOL, and use it

as a reserved volume as well by setting its reserve attribute, only the capacity of the volume itself is added

to the total volume capacity and there is no need for it to be doubled.

Caution:

If you specify an XP Thin Provisioning volume as a P-VOL or an S-VOL, the capacity of the pool

used by the XP Thin Provisioning volume will require the Business Copy license capacity. Information

about the license capacity of XP Thin Provisioning volumes is not updated in real time. Therefore, certain

write requests may cause the data excess. So, prepare the license capacity corresponding to the pool

capacity when you are going to use the XP Thin Provisioning volumes.
Even if the amount of data exceeds the license capacity, you can use the volumes for additional 30

days. Once 30 days have passed, you cannot do any Business Copy operations except suspending

or deleting pairs.
Below are some illustrated case examples that should help you understand more clearly about how to

calculate the total capacity of Business Copy volumes that will be used. For the sake of explanation,

the capacity of each volume is assumed to be 1. The colored volume or volumes represent the volumes

that are used.

Figure 20

on page 41 shows an example of one reserved volume and one unreserved volume. In this

case, the total capacity of Business Copy volume in use will be 1.
