HP StorageWorks XP Snapshot

XP Snapshot is a program product similar to Business Copy. It enables you to maintain and copy all data

on the storage system. XP Snapshot is used for data for open systems such as UNIX and PC servers.

A pair created by XP Snapshot is called an XP Snapshot pair in this document. Note that the use of

XP Snapshot involves Business Copy.
XP Snapshot and Business Copy are similar because both program products create pairs. However, the

S-VOLs of XP Snapshot pairs do not consume the capacity of the storage system because the S-VOLs are

virtual volumes. Therefore, XP Snapshot reduces the capacity used by the storage system as a whole.

In addition, since XP Snapshot copies only the updated part of the P-VOL, XP Snapshot pairs will take

shorter time compared to the copy process of Business Copy pairs.
We encourage the use of XP Snapshot to copy and manage the data in a short time with a reduced cost.

However, since only some of the data in P-VOLs is copied by XP Snapshot, the data stored in P-VOLs is

not guaranteed in some cases. Therefore, we encourage you to consider the use of Business Copy when

data integrity is more important than the speed of copy process or the capacity of the storage system.
For details about XP Snapshot, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Snapshot User’s Guide.

Continuous Access

Continuous Access enables open-system users to perform synchronous and/or asynchronous remote copy

operations between storage systems. The user can create, split, and resynchronize LU pairs. Once

established, Continuous Access operations continue unattended and provide continuous, real-time data

backup. Remote copy operations are nondisruptive and allow the primary Continuous Access volumes to

remain online to all hosts for both read and write I/O operations.
Continuous Access supports Fibre Channel interface connections between the main and remote storage

systems. For Fibre Channel connection, Continuous Access operations can be performed across distances

of up to 30 km (18.6 miles) using single-mode longwave optical fibre cables in a switch configuration.

Long-distance solutions are provided, based on user requirements and workload characteristics, using

approved channel extenders and communication lines. For further information on Continuous Access,

see HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Software User and Reference Guide, or contact

your HP service representative.
