AF Assist

Enable or disable AF-assist illuminator, which assists autofocus operation when the subject is
dimly lit.

Enter shooting mode or playback mode M flexible button 4 (l) M flexible button 4
(l Camera settings) M press I M flexible button 4 (r AF assist)

Option

Description

Auto (default setting)

The AF-assist illuminator lights automatically when the subject is
dimly lit. The illuminator has a range of about 3.5 m (11 ft) at the
maximum wide-angle position and about 2.0 m (6 ft 6 in.) at the
maximum telephoto position.

When Photograph fireworks (A 46) is selected under Choose

a style, the AF-assist illuminator does not light.

Depending on the scene (A 34) automatically selected by the

camera when using A Point and shoot mode, the AF-assist
illuminator may not light.

Off

The AF-assist illuminator does not light. The camera may be unable to
focus under dim lighting.
