Beyond Point-and-Shoot—Focus Mode

Delaying Shutter Release: Self-Timer Mode

The self-timer can be used for photographs in which you wish to appear
yourself or to prevent photographs from being blurred by camera movement
that occurs when the shutter-release button is pressed. To use the self-timer:

1

Position the camera
Mount the camera on a tripod (recommended) or rest it on a flat, stable
surface.

2

Select a self-timer mode
Press the

button until the self-

timer icon ( ) is displayed. The
macro close-up icon ( ) will also
be displayed to indicate that the
camera can focus at distances of
2 cm (0.8˝) or more.

3

Compose the photograph
Adjust camera settings and frame the picture.

4

Start the timer
Press the shutter-release button all
the way down to activate the
timer. Press once for a ten-second
delay, twice for a three-second de-
lay. To stop the timer, press the
shutter-release button a third time.

The self-timer lamp next to the lens will start to blink when the shutter-
release button is pressed, and continue to blink until one second before
the photo is taken. The self-timer lamp will stay lit during the final second
to warn that the shutter is about to be released.
