Restrictions imposed by the copyright-
protection technology “OpenMG”

The “SonicStage” software employs the Sony-developed copyright-
protection technology “OpenMG” to safeguard the copyrights of music
contents. To allow copyright-protected music data to be handled on a
personal computer, “OpenMG” employs an advanced encryption
technology that complies with the SDMI agreement. Consequently, please
understand that the following restrictions apply when you use the
software.

• Music data stored on your computer’s hard disk by use of “SonicStage”

cannot be played back on another computer, even after being copied to
that device.

• Music data transferred (checked out) from your computer on a

MagicGate compatible “Memory Stick” cannot be played back on
another computer, etc., even when copied to the device.

• Music data transferred (checked out) to a MagicGate compatible

“Memory Stick” cannot be transferred (checked in) to any other
computer than the one from which the data was originally transferred.

• The same “SonicStage” program cannot be installed on multiple

computers.

• If Usage Rule conditions are attached to music data in accordance with

the wishes of the copyright holder and service businesses, you can only
perform the operations that are allowed in accordance with the imposed
rules. In the case of music data, such as music CDs, etc., where no usage
rules apply, you can only perform the operations defined by the basic
SDMI rules (Default Usage Rule). According to the Default Usage Rule
“a single set of music data can only be checked out 3 times.”

• In accordance with the SDMI agreements, the “SonicStage” software is

not capable of handling music data with imbedded copy-guard signals.

• The current version of the “SonicStage” software is designed based on

the current SDMI agreements. There is a possibility that a part of the
functions featured in the current software version may become unusable
if the SDMI stipulations are to be amended in the future. Upgraded
versions are scheduled to be released to cope with future amendments.
Please note that upgrade versions may be offered at cost to the user.
