Glossary
This section contains a list of common terms and definitions for the VAIO® MX
computer and Giga Pocket™ Personal Video Recorder system.
ATRAC3
Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding 3 (ATRAC3) is an audio
compression technology which produces high quality
reocridng and superior compression rates. ATRAC3
technology delivers a compression rate that is approximately
ten times higher than an audio CD.
Cabinet
A container for Video Capsules in Video Explorer.
CATV
Community Access Television, otherwise known as cable
television.
Check-In
The process of returning audio files from a MiniDisc,
Memory Stick media or portable audio device to a computer,
that is managed by an OpenMG compliant application, such
as SonicStage™ Premium.
Check-Out
The process of transferring audio files between a computer,
MiniDisc, Memory Stick media or portable audio device, that
is managed by an OpenMG compliant application, such as
SonicStage Premium.
Note: Files that are checked out from a specific computer
must be checked in to the same computer.
Clip
A Video Capsule is called a clip when it is used in Playlist
Builder.
Cut
A selected scene taken from a previously recorded Video
Capsule.
EMD
Electronic Music Distribution (EMD) is a service which
distributes digital audio contents over the Internet.
Expiration date
A Video Capsule is stored on the hard disk drive for a preset
period of time. When this time has expired, the Video
Capsule is automatically deleted.
Film roll
During Video Capsule playback, a snapshot view of the
scenes are captured on a film roll. You can scroll freely
through the film roll to view different scenes.
GOP
Group of Pictures (GOP) are the smallest unit of measure for
the images captured on a Video Capsule. A single GOP is
approximately 0.5 to 1 second in length.
