Make

sure

that

the

retaining

clips

are

in

the

locked

position

when

the

VRM

is

firmly

seated

in

the

connector.

8.

Install

the

microprocessor:

a.

Touch

the

static-protective

package

that

contains

the

microprocessor

to

any

unpainted

metal

surface

on

the

server.

Then,

remove

the

microprocessor

from

the

package.

b.

Remove

the

protective

cover,

tape,

or

label

from

the

surface

of

the

microprocessor

socket,

if

any

is

present.

c.

Open

the

microprocessor

bracket

frame

1 .

d.

Rotate

the

release

lever

2

on

the

microprocessor

socket

from

its

closed

and

locked

position

to

its

fully

open

position.

Attention:

Make

sure

that

the

release

lever

on

the

microprocessor

socket

is

in

the

fully

open

position

before

you

insert

the

microprocessor

in

the

socket.

Failure

to

do

so

might

result

in

permanent

damage

to

the

microprocessor,

microprocessor

socket,

and

system

board.

Attention:

v

Do

not

use

excessive

force

when

pressing

the

microprocessor

into

the

socket.

v

Make

sure

that

the

microprocessor

is

oriented

and

aligned

with

land

number

1

in

the

socket

before

you

try

to

close

the

lever.

e.

Align

the

microprocessor

1

with

the

socket

(note

the

alignment

mark

2

and

the

position

of

the

notches);

then,

carefully

place

the

microprocessor

on

the

socket

4

and

close

the

microprocessor

bracket

frame.

f.

Carefully

close

the

release

lever

3

to

secure

the

microprocessor

in

the

socket.

9.

Install

the

heat

sink.

Attention:

Do

not

touch

the

thermal

grease

on

the

bottom

of

the

heat

sink

or

set

down

the

heat

sink

after

you

remove

the

plastic

cover.

Touching

the

thermal

grease

will

contaminate

it.

a.

Make

sure

that

the

heat-sink

lever

4

is

in

the

open

position.

b.

Remove

the

plastic

protective

cover

from

the

bottom

of

the

heat

sink

c.

Align

the

heat

sink

1

above

the

microprocessor

2

with

the

thermal-grease

side

down.

Press

firmly

on

the

heat

sink.
