Chapter 4

Flash shooting (Cont.)

SLOW:

1st curtain with red-eye reduction
This is for when you want to use Slow Synchronization yet also reduce red-
eye. For instance, when shooting a person against a brightly lit night
background. A normal flash might make the person’s eyes red, but 1st curtain
with red-eye reduction lets you capture the background correctly and reduce
red-eye at the same time.
2nd curtain with red-eye reduction is not available.

SLOW2:

2nd curtain (rear curtain)
2nd curtain fires the flash just before the shutter closes. Changing the flash
timing can create interesting effects in your picture, such as expressing the
movement of a car by showing the taillights streaming backwards. The slower
the shutter speed, the better the effects turn out.
Slowest possible shutter speed depends on the shooting mode:
M mode

: 16 sec.

P, A, S,

mode : 4 sec. (depending on the ISO setting)
