To change the default settings for PhotoFlash’s virtual memory, follow
these steps:

1

To ensure that a certain disk is

not used for PhotoFlash virtual memory, click the disk’s

checkbox to deselect it.

2

Repeat step 1 to deselect any other disks that you don’t want PhotoFlash to use for
virtual memory.

3

Click OK to close the Preferences dialog box and save your settings.

IMPORTANT

Once you deselect a hard disk drive that’s in use (shown in bold

type) and close the Preferences dialog box, you must quit PhotoFlash and
then launch it again to actually change the status of the hard disk drive.

The number of images that PhotoFlash can open is determined by the amount
of RAM assigned to it and the available disk space on the disks that are
selected in the Preferences dialog box. For example, if you leave none of the
disks selected, PhotoFlash can open only images that can fit in the unused
portion of its RAM partition.

Thumbnail preferences

PhotoFlash automatically creates a thumbnail when you save an image file
and saves it along with the image. Thumbnails appear in PhotoFlash’s Open
dialog box and in catalogs.

IMPORTANT

The thumbnail is stored in a part of the image file that is separate

from the image itself. You can use images that have thumbnails with other
programs that don’t support thumbnails.

Appendix A

This checkbox isn’t selected, so PhotoFlash
can’t use this disk for virtual memory.
