Diesel Engine: Fuel System
FUEL SYSTEM AIR REMOVAL - DIESEL ENGINE
Controlled venting of air is provided at the injection
pump through the fuel drain manifold. Small
amounts of air introduced by changing filters or
injection pump supply line will be vented
automatically, if the fuel filter is changed in
accordance with instructions. (See "Fuel Filters".)
However, manual venting ("bleeding") may be
required if:
1. The fuel filter is not filled prior to installation.
2. Injection pump is replaced.
3. High-pressure fuel lines are replaced.
4. Engine is run until fuel tank is empty.
To bleed LOW pressure lines and fuel filters:
1. Loosen the bleed screw (A) located at the outlet
fitting from the fuel filter housing.
2. Push plunger (B) on the lift pump until clear fuel
with no air bubbles flows from around the bleed
screw.
3. Tighten the bleed screw (A).
