Install the Fan Kit

Perform the following steps to install the fan kit on the specified MP-Series motors.
The outline drawing on

page 4

identifies important features on the fan kit.

1. Separate the cooling fan into two parts: the fan assembly and the motor shroud.

The motor shroud is a sheet metal structure for directing the flow of cooling air around
the motor housing. The fan assembly is integrated into the shroud, and forces the
cooling air through the motor shroud and across the motor housing.

a. Remove the six screws fastening the fan assembly to the shroud.

There are two screws on each side, and two screws on the top of the shroud.

b. Carefully slide the fan assembly from the sheet metal shroud.

2. Wire input power to the fan assembly.

a. Insert the fan power cable, or discrete power and ground wires, through the

grommeted hole in the back of the fan assembly.

b. Connect 230V AC input power and ground to the terminals on the fan assembly.

Refer to the exploded view on

page 4

for the location of terminals for input power

and ground.

3. Install the shroud on the motor.

This step is easier to complete by raising the motor so it rests on its faceplate.

a. Remove both eyebolts from the motor.

The front eyebolt will be replaced by the hex-head cap screw included in the kit.

b. Slide the motor shroud onto the motor.

ATTENTION: To avoid personal injury, carefully remove the fan assembly from
its metal shroud. Pay particular attention to the possibility of sharp edges on the
sheet metal.

SHOCK HAZARD: To avoid the hazard of an electrical shock, perform all
mounting and wiring of the fan kit prior to applying power. Once power is
applied, connector terminals may have voltage present even when not in use.

TIP

The fan kit may be attached to a machine-mounted motor by removing the cross
brace panel at the front of the shroud. Removal of the cross brace panel lets you
pass the shroud around the motor connectors. However, reinstalling the cross
brace may be difficult in a confined space.
