Connect the SAS connector to the hard drive.

Connect the other end of the SAS cable to the SAS controller card.

Ensure that all connectors are properly cabled and firmly seated.

9.

Connect the computer and devices to electrical outlets, and turn them on.

See the documentation that came with the drive for instructions on installing any software required for drive operation.

 

10.

If the drive you just installed is the primary drive, insert a bootable floppy disk into drive A.

 

11.

Turn on the computer.

 

12.

Enter system setup (see Entering System Setup

), and update the appropriate Primary Drive option (0 or 1).


 

13.

Exit system setup, and reboot the computer.

 

14.

Partition and logically format your drive before you proceed to the next step.

15.

Test the hard drive by running the Dell Diagnostics (see

Dell Diagnostics

).


 

16.

If the drive you just installed is the primary drive, install your operating system on the hard drive.

 

Removing an Optional Third Hard Drive (Tower Computer)

 

1.

Remove the front panel. See

2.

Disconnect the power cable from the back of the hard drive and from the power supply.

 

3.

If you are removing a SATA drive, disconnect the serial ATA cable from the back of the hard drive and from the SATA connector on the system board.

 

4.

If you are removing a SAS drive:

a.

 

Disconnect the power cable form the SAS connector.

b.

 

Disconnect the SAS connector from the hard drive.

c.

 

Disconnect the SAS connector from the SAS controller card.

 

5.

Slide the sliding-plate lever to the right to release the shoulder screw and slide the drive out of the lower 3.5-inch drive bay.

NOTICE:

To connect a network cable, first plug the cable into the network port or device and then plug it into the computer.

3 SATA connector
