Integrated NIC TOE

The TCP/IP Offload Engine (TOE) functionality of the system's integrated NIC is activated by the LOM NIC hardware key installed in the TOE_KEY socket on the
system board (see

Figure 6

-2

Processors

You can upgrade your processors to take advantage of future options in speed and functionality. Each processor and its associated internal cache memory are
contained in a land grid array (LGA) package that is installed in a ZIF socket on the system board.

 

Removing a Processor

 

 

1.

Prior to upgrading your system, download the latest system BIOS version on support.dell.com.

 

2.

Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the electrical outlet.

4.

Remove the memory module cooling shrouds. See

Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, loosen one of the two heat-sink retention screws. See

9.

Wait 30 seconds for the heat sink to loosen from the processor.

 

10.

Loosen the other heat-sink retention screw.

 

11.

Gently lift the heat sink off of the processor and set the heat sink aside.

NOTICE:

Never remove the memory cooling shroud without first powering down the system. Overheating of the system can develop quickly resulting in

a shutdown of the system and the loss of data.

CAUTION:

The DIMMs are hot to the touch for some time after the system has been powered down. Allow the DIMMs to cool before handling

them. Handle the DIMMs by the card edges, and avoid touching the DIMM components.

NOTICE:

Never operate your system with the memory cooling shroud removed. Overheating of the system can develop quickly resulting in a shutdown

of the system and the loss of data.

Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as

authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not
authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.

NOTICE:

Never remove the heat sink from a processor unless you intend to remove the processor. The heat sink is necessary to maintain proper

thermal conditions.

NOTICE:

The processor is held in its socket under strong pressure. Be aware that the release lever can spring up suddenly if not firmly grasped.
