Figure 9-8. Slot 2 SEC Cartridge/Heat Sink Assembly Removal

6. Insert the new Slot 2 SEC cartridge/heat sink assembly into the system board connector.

Press the Slot 2 SEC cartridge firmly into its connector until it is fully seated.
You must use up to 25 lb of force to fully seat the Slot 2 SEC cartridge in its connector. Install a second Slot 2 SEC
cartridge/heat sink assembly into its connector, if desired. Place the top bracket on top of the Slot 2 SEC cartridge(s)
(see Figure 9-8). Install or replace the four large thumbscrews through the top bracket holes and through the holes in
the guide bracket assembly to secure the heat sink to the chassis.

NOTE:

Both processor slots must be populated with either a Pentium II Xeon processor or a Dell

terminator card. If a slot is not occupied, or if a non-Dell terminator card is installed, the system will not
turn on.

7. If necessary, change the processor speed jumper setting (see Figure B-1 to locate system board jumpers).

The processor speed jumper should be set for the installed processor's rated internal speed. For example, for a 400-
megahertz (MHz) Intel Pentium II Xeon processor, a jumper plug should be installed on the pins labeled " 400MHZ."
(See "

Hardware Configuration Features

" for more information on the jumpers.) The processor speed jumper setting

must not exceed the slowest internal speed of either processor.

8. Rotate the power supply back into position, making sure that the securing tab snaps into place.
9. Replace the computer cover, and reconnect your computer and peripherals to their power sources and turn them on.

As the system boots, it detects the presence of the new processor and automatically changes the system
configuration information in the System Setup program. The new processor's identification code number is also
displayed in the CPU ID(s) category in the System Setup program. If you installed a second processor, two processor
identification code numbers should be present in the CPU ID(s) category.

NOTE:

After you remove and replace the cover, the chassis intrusion detector will cause the following

message to be displayed at the next system start-up:

ALERT! Cover was previously removed.

10. Enter the System Setup program, and confirm that the top line in the system data area correctly identifies the

installed processor(s).
