About this document
This document is a hardware reference manual written for SAN administrators using Blade Servers
that support the Dell 8/4Gbps Fibre Channel (FC) SAN Module. It provides information on installing,
configuring, and maintaining of the FC SAN Module.

Throughout this document, the Dell 8/4Gbps FC SAN Module is referred to as the FC SAN Module.

This document is organized to help you find information that you need as quickly as possible. The
document contains the following components:
• Chapter 1, “Introducing the FC SAN Module,” describes the FC SAN Module and explains its
basic concepts and features. This chapter also provides instructions for unpacking the FC SAN
Module from its shipping container, references to the appropriate publication for installing the
module into the Dell PowerEdge M1000e Blade Enclosure, and Fibre Channel port cabling
guidelines.
• Chapter 2, “Configuring the FC SAN Module” describes how to change the FC SAN Module’s IP
address, connect the module to the Ethernet network and fabric, and activate additional ports.
• Chapter 3, “Operating the FC SAN Module,” provides details about operating and replacing a
8/4Gbps FC SAN Module.
• Appendix A, “8/4Gbps FC SAN Module specifications,” is a product specification reference.
