Adding and Replacing Parts

4 Replace the cover.

NOTICE:

If the cover is difficult to close, remove the module and reinstall it. Forcing the cover to close may

damage your computer.

5 Insert the battery into the battery bay, or connect the AC adapter to your computer and an electrical

outlet.

6 Turn on the computer.

As the computer boots, it detects the additional memory and automatically updates the system

configuration information.
To confirm the amount of memory installed in the computer:

• In the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.

Click

PropertiesGeneral.

• In the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, click the Windows Vista Start button,

, and

right-click

ComputerProperties.

CAUTION:

Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions in the

NOTICE:

To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically

touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer).

1 Follow the procedures in "Before You Begin" on page 103.
2 Remove the hinge cover (see "Hinge Cover" on page 112).

NOTICE:

The keycaps on the keyboard are fragile, easily dislodged, and time-consuming to replace. Be careful

when removing and handling the keyboard.
