Before the first use, you should operate the appliance without coffee. The internal compo-

nents of the appliance will be heated and purged. Follow the instructions according to the

section ›Preparing a Coffee‹.

preparing the Appliance for Operation

wARninG: Never leave small children unsupervised with the appliance or the parts of

the appliance! Always make sure that the appliance is properly and fully assembled and

the selector switch is positioned on standby (centre) before plugging the power cord into

the outlet and turning on the appliance.
ATTenTiOn: If the selector switch is positioned to the right (in brewing

position), after preheating, hot water emerges from the group head. If

the selector switch is positioned to the left (steam/hot water), hot steam

or hot water (depending on the setting) emerges from the steam wand.

Make sure that the black folding switch is in the correct position: steam

or hot water.
Make sure to position the selector switch to the ›Standby‹-postition (midd-

le) first. Press the ›on/off‹-switch and turn on the appliance. The power

indicator lights red. During preheating the heating indicator lights red.

Once the appliance is ready for operation the heating indicator turns off.
note: Always turn the appliance off with the ›on/off‹-switch, unplug the power cord and

wait until the appliance has cooled down before removing/replacing or cleaning the app-

liance water tank or drip tray.
Keep the workstation clean and dry. Do not let any liquids run above or below the app-

liance or place towels, napkins, or similar materials under or on the appliance. If during

operation liquids have run on the appliance, turn off the power immediately and unplug the

power cord. Dry the appliance according to the instructions in section ›Care and Cleaning‹.
To ensure that the thermal system and all inside pipes of the appliance are pre-heated and

have the required operating temperature, the appliance shoud be prepared accordingly.

Fill the water tank (as described) up to the MAX-mark (1500 ml).

Turn the appliance on by pressing the ›on/off‹-switch and position the

steam wand towards the drip tray. The power indicator lights red. During

preheating the heating indicator lights red. Once the appliance is ready

for use, the heating indicator turns off.
note: The pumping noise could be a little louder when the appliance

is turned on for the first time, because the thermal system and all inside

pipes in the appliance have to be filled with water. Once the appliance is

ready for operation and the systems are filled with water, the appliance

operates quieter.
ATTenTiOn: When operating the appliance, always ensure that the

water tank is filled.
