Tamping the Coffee

Once you have filled the right amount of coffee powder into the filter, you must press the

ground coffee evenly as possible. To do this, use the flat bottom of the spoon. The coffee

must be very firmly pressed.
• If you press the coffee too hard, the water flows too slowly through the powder. The

coffee is dark and bitter.
• If you press the ground coffee too little, then the water flows through too quickly and the

flavors remain in the coffee powder. The coffee is watery and bland.

CARe AnD CleAninG

Regular and careful maintenance is very important for the performance, life and reliability

of your appliance.
• Never clean the appliance, the appliance parts and accessories in the dishwasher.
Daily cleaning: Clean portafilter, filters, water tank, drip tray, measuring spoon and

tamper with warm water and/or a food-safe detergent. Clean the grouphead and the group

gasket at the bottom of the grouphead of visible pollution without removeing these parts.
Cleaning as required: Clean steam and hot water wand after each use. Clean the ex-

terior of the appliance with the appliance switched off and cooled down. For cleaning, use

soft damp cloth. Do not use abrasives or chlorine-containing cleaning agent in any case!
Empty the drip tray in time. Do not wait until it is full to the brim.
wARninG:

Grouphead, poratfilter, filter, steam wand and its attachment will be very hot

during operation. In addition when the appliance is in operation hot water or steam can

escape. Turn off the appliance first (press ›on/off‹-switch), unplug the power cord from the

outlet, wait until the appliance has cooled down and empty the water tank and drip tray

when not using the appliance, moving the appliance, or cleaning the appliance.
• Never pour liquids over the appliance or power cord or immerse these into liquids.
• Do not use abrasive cleaners or cleaning pads (e.g. metal scouring pads) for cleaning.

Do not clean the appliance with any corrosive chemicals (e.g. bleach). Do not immerse the

appliance or power cord in water or any other liquid. Do not spill or drip any liquids on

the appliance or on the power cord to avoid risk of fire and electric shock. When liquids

are spilled in the appliance, immediately switch off, unplug the power cord and wait for

the appliance to cool down.

Never use any hard or sharp objects for working with the

appliance or for cleaning the appliance. Do not apply any violence to prevent damage to

the components when operating the appliance.
• The cleaning tool contains a sharp needle. Be careful not to pierce yourself with the need-

le. Never allow small children to play with the components and accessories of the appliance

or the cleaning tool.
