Installation

5.1

3G- Enabled SKUs of the M2M System

Selected SKUs come with a pre-certified 3G module. This option makes it easier for development, testing and
deployment in with some operators. A SIM card must be obtained from your local 3G provider.

5.2

Addition/Replacement

If you purchased a Kontron M2M Smart Services Developer Kit that does not include the 3G module, the Ericsson
F5521gw module may be added to the system since drivers are enabled and the BIOS supports this module. Please
note that adding any other module will require additional drivers and certifications for the system.

5.3

Before You Begin

Warning: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) and ESD protection: ESD can damage modems, boards, and other parts. We
recommend that you perform all procedures in this chapter only at an ESD workstation. If one is not available, provide
some ESD protection by wearing an antistatic wrist strap attached to chassis ground (any unpainted metal surface)
on your Kontron M2M Smart Services Developer Kit when handling parts.

Tools and Supplies Needed
