5.2.2 New Installation

On new installations, make sure that all steps in the installation (see chapter 2) are complete:

Step 1. Check that the STA LED is green.

Step 2. Check that the fiber type (multimode or single mode) matches the CLIM optical mode.

Step 3. Make these checks:

All fiber cabling is of the same type; do not mix multimode and single mode cables.

The fiber optic cable is within the specifications and loss budget of the optic interface
module.

The line length between the CLIM and the remote link does not exceed the allowable loss
budget or overdrive limit.

All host modules in the link are turned on.

All fiber cables are connected Tx to Rx and Rx to Tx.

The Normal/X-over switch for the User Port is in the proper position.

5.2.3 SW1 Settings Ignored

If the CLIM was installed in a UCS 1000 or 1002 and set in the User Interface to software control, it
ignores the switch settings when placed in a UCS 1001 or Model 1030. For details on setting the
CLIM to hardware control before installing, see Chapter 2.

5.2.4 Problems With Fiber Optics

If the Extension Port link is down on the System Alarms screen, inspect and clean the cables and
connections, then replace any damaged fiber. Test any components that fail after cleaning.
