Chapter 1
Overview
The Edge Access L3x2 Series Combination Line Interface Modules (CLIM) convert and extend
Ethernet media between Local Area Networks (LANs) located up to 120km apart.

L312 Series CLIMs
The L312 receives and transmits 10Base-T full-duplex Ethernet data from a Unshielded Twisted Pair
cable (UTP) and extends it over a multimode or single mode fiber optic cable.
The CLIM front panel, shown in Figure 1, includes:

User port: RJ-45 modular connector for a UTP cable
•
Extension port: ST or SC connecters
•
Status LEDs:
•
LNK/RX and TX pairs for the User and Extension ports shows link status and that data is
received and transmitted
•
STA shows CLIM status
•
Normal/X-over switch: Selects the UTP cable type for the User Port. Set to N for a standard
straight-through cable; set to X for a crossed-over cable
