Replacing a Hard Drive

Do not remove a hard drive from the server unless the diagnostic software identifies a
permanent fault. In that event, the front panel DRIVES LED will blink. Use the hard disk
management tools to verify that a drive is at fault. The application monitors many things about
the array and individual drives, and will clearly indicate whether a drive has failed.

CAUTION:

Do not install drives that are not approved by 360 Systems. All drives in the RAID array must
be of a similar model family and the same or greater capacity.

Each hard drive slot is numbered 0 through 3, as are the drives. If for any reason one or more
drives have been removed, they must be reinstalled in the same location, the drive number
matching the numbered location. Installation in the wrong location may destroy data stored on
all the drives.

If you have ANY doubt that you are replacing the correct drive, try to restart the server with
the drive disconnected. It should boot up normally. Immediately perform the Shutdown
(Start>Shutdown>Shutdown) procedure and continue. If the server does not start normally,
reconnect the drive and verify which drive is faulty.

1. Shutdown the server using the front panel

RESET

button. After it has shut down, turn off

the rear AC power switch. On power supply models without a switch, unplug AC power
cables.

2. Remove the front panel as described above.
3. Unplug the power connector data connector from the drive.
4. Pull the black tab to slide the drive carrier and drive out. Remove the drive carrier plate

and install it on the new drive.

5. To install a new drive, remove the drive carrier from the old drive and install on the new

one. Slide the drive and drive carrier plate into the correct position in the drive shelf.
Reattach the power and data cables.

6. Replace the front panel and tighten the two thumb screws until they are just snug.
7. Turn on the rear panel AC switch or plug AC power cables back in.
8. Turn the system ON using the front panel

RESET

button, and check the RAID array status.

9. Verify correct operation of the server.
