Error Messages

As with any sophisticated office product, errors may sometimes occur. If this

happens, your MFC often identifies the problem and displays an error message.

The table below explains the most common error messages.

You can correct most problems by yourself. If you need additional help, call the

Brother Fax-Back System.

ERROR MESSAGE

CAUSE

ACTION

CHECK CASSETTE MFC cassette cover is open or MFC cassette is

not installed properly.

Close cassette cover or install cassette properly.

CHECK PAPER

MFC is out of paper (MFC 7000FC).

Add p^r to cassette.

CHECK PAPER #1

(MFC7200rc)

MFC cassette #1 is out of paper (MFC 7200FC).

Add pjqter to cassette # 1.

CHECK PAPER # 2

(MFC7200FC)

MFC cassette #2 is out of paper (MFC 7200FC).

Add paper to cassette # 2.

CHECK PAPER SIZE Your Paper Size setting may not match size

of paper in cassette.

Change either paper in cassette or change Paper
Size setting.

CLEAN BLACK INK Ink empty mark was not printed correctly.

Clean the black print head. See p. 114. or
replace black ink cartridge.

CLEAN UP SCANNER/
SCANNER ERROR

Dirt or foreign object is on white pressure bar
or glass scanner bar.

Clean scanning area. See p. 120. Then if
CLEAN UP SCANNER still shows, call Brother
Customer Service. See p. 137.

COMM. ERROR

Poor phone line quality caused

communication error.

TYy the call again. If problem continues, call
Telq)hone Company to check your phone line.

CONNECTION FAIL You tried to poll a fax machine that is not in

Polled Waiting mode.

Verify the other party’s polling setup.

COOLING DOWN

The print head has overheated.

Unplug the MFC and wait 30 minutes for

it to cool.

COVER OPEN

One of MFC’s covers is not closed completely.Open, then close, each cover.

DISCONNECTED

The other party or other party's fax machine

terminated the call.

Try to transmit or receive again.

DOCUMENT JAM

Documents were not inserted, or fed properly,

or document was longer than 40".

INK EMPTY

One or more of the ink cartridges is out of ink.Replace the ink cartridges. See p. 121.

MACHINE ERROR XXMFC has a mechanical problem.

Call Brother Customer Service. See p. 137.

NEAR EMPTY

One or more of the ink cartridges is running
out of ink.

Replace the ink cartridges. See p. 121.

NO RESPONSE/BUSYThe number you dialed does not answer or

is busy.

Verify the number and try again.

NOT REGISTERED You tried to access a One Touch or Speed Dial

number that is not programmed.

Set up the One Touch or Speed Dial number.

See pp. 23-25 in the Setup Manual.

PRINTER JAM

The recording paper is jammed in the MFC. See p.

109.

SET CARTRIDGE

An ink cartridge is not installed properly.

Re-install the ink, seating it properly. See p. 121.

WARMING UP

The print head detects low temperature.

Wait until the machine warms up.
