About the bird:

This is not a

backyard bird. A rather large seabird

of the north Atlantic, the Razorbill

nests in caves and cliff ledges.

Range:

Resident across the

Atlantic from Newfoundland, Canada

to Maine; winters south to Va.

About the bird:

A conspicuous

black line through the eye sets this

species apart from other nuthatches.

Range:

Resident in most of North

America; Southeast in winter only.

Although most

woodpeckers show at least a small

patch of red on the head, only one

species bears the name Red-headed

Woodpecker.

Range:

Uncommon across the east-

ern two-thirds of the U.S.

About the photo:

No woodpecker

can resist peanuts. This Red-headed

Woodpecker poses for the camera while

taking full advantage of an easy meal.
