4 Function description
4.1 Overview
The safety card monitors safety functions in accordance with EN 61800­5­2. It monitors
safe motion sequences on drives, which are safely brought to a stop and shut down in the
event of an error.
The safety card is built into a servo amplifier PMCprotego D. This converts the servo ampli­
fier into a safe servo amplifier.
A safe drive system from Pilz consists of the following:
} Servo amplifier (PMCprotego D)
} Safety card PMCprotego S built into the servo amplifier
} Servo motor (synchronous motor) with
– Standard encoder system (feedback)
– Brake (optional, not safety­related))
} Safety control system
