4. Development Board Setup
The instructions in this chapter explain how to set up the MAX V CPLD development
board.
Setting Up the Board
To prepare and apply power to the board, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the shunt jumper for J8 (connecting pins 9 and 10) is set to 3.3 V
(default setting).
2. To power up the board, plug in the USB cable to the host PC, and plug the other
end of USB cable into the board USB type B connector (J4). No other power supply
is needed.
When the board is powered up, the blue LED power indicator will illuminate.

It is also possible to power up the board through the BATT+ and BATT- connectors
using three 1.5-V batteries in series. However, once you plug in a USB cable, the board
disconnects the battery supply and obtains power from the USB cable.
