Adjusting the headphone volume

You may be able to plug headphones into the headphone jack on the CD-ROM drive
(not available on all systems) or into the line-out jack on the back of the computer’s
system unit. The line-out jack is marked with the icon

.

• On some IBM computers, a headphone jack and a volume control are located

on the CD-ROM drive on the front of the computer’s system unit.

When your headphones are plugged into the headphone jack on the CD-ROM
drive, they will pick up only the sound coming from an ordinary audio CD in the
CD-ROM drive. The headphones will not pick up other sounds generated from
your computer or any external device connected to the computer, such as a
MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) keyboard.

When your headphones are plugged into this jack, use the volume control on
the CD-ROM drive to adjust the volume of the headphones. This volume control
adjusts the volume of the headphones, but not the speakers. If you want to turn
the speaker volume down while using the headphones, use the volume control
program to do it.

Note:

The CD-ROM drive in the computer that you
purchased may not include all of the lights and
controls shown in the following illustration.
