In addition to providing all the functions necessary to control the AV 5103

System Controller and any other Linn equipment in your system, the

Personal Handset can learn commands from the infra-red handsets for other

equipment you may own. This allows you to program your Linn Personal

Handset so that it is the only handset you need in your system, allowing you

to control all your hi-fi, audio, and video components from a single

convenient keypad.

The Personal Handset provides two programmable groups of keys: the

Programmable source control keys and the Programmable numeric keys, as

well as the STANDBY key. An independent set of functions can be assigned

to these keys for each of your audio and video sources, thus allowing you to

control up to 11 different sources attached to your system.

In addition there is also a special case for a TV source, which can be learnt

by the Personal Handset’s volume and balance keys.

When you select an audio or video source the functions of the

programmable keys automatically change to the functions you have learnt for

that source.

The following procedure allows the AV5101 Personal Handset to be

programmed to control other equipment such as VCRs and LaserDisc

players.

Prior to learning a new set of commands from another infra-red handset as a

new source (TUNER, DAT, CD, TAPE, AUX1, AUX2, CABLE, VCR, TV, SAT, or

LASER) on the AV 5101 Personal Handset, previously learnt commands for

that source must be erased from the AV 5101’s memory as follows:

Press the LEARN key.

The LEARN indicator will illuminate.

Press and hold the Audio/Video source select key for the source you

want to erase, and while still holding the Audio/Video source select key,

press and hold the LEARN key.

When the Audio/Video source select key is pressed, the LEARN indicator

blinks once. After the Audio/Video source select key and the LEARN key

have been held for 5 seconds, the memory for the selected source will be

erased and the LEARN indicator turns off.

For example to erase previously learnt VCR commands, after pressing the

LEARN key, press and hold the VCR key, and while holding the VCR key,

press and hold the LEARN key for 5 seconds.
