Choose the language for audio, subtitle and disc menus.

DVD-V

Press ENTER to display the menu.

● Enter a code (p. 69) when you select “Other ****”
● Some discs start in a certain language despite any changes you make

here.

Audio Language

● Original: The original language of each disc will be selected.
● Other ****

Subtitle Language

● Automatic:

If the language selected for “Audio Language” is not available, subtitles of
that language will automatically appear if available on that disc.

Ratings
Set a ratings level to limit DVD-Video play.

Follow the on-screen instructions. Enter a 4-digit password with
the NUMBER keys when the password screen is shown.
● Do not forget your password.

● 8 No Limit:

All DVD-Video can be played.

● 1 to 7:

Prohibits play of DVD-Video with corresponding ratings
recorded on them.

● 0 Lock All:

Prohibits play of all DVD-Video.

Changing ratings (When level 0-7 is selected)

Recording time in EP mode
Select the maximum number of hours for recording in EP mode.
(Refer to “Recording modes and approximate recording times”
on page 39.)

● EP (6 H):

You can record for 6 hours on an unused 4.7 GB disc.

● EP (8 H):

You can record for 8 hours on an unused 4.7 GB disc.

Play DVD-Audio in Video Mode
Select “Video (On)” to play DVD-Video content on some
DVD-Audio.

● Video (On):

The setting returns to “Audio (Off)” when you change
the disc or turn the unit off.

● Audio (Off)

Video

3-D Y/C Separation
Allows high quality recording of the received picture.

● On:

High quality recording is achieved by precise separation
of the Y (luminance) and C (color) of the received
picture signal.

● Off:

Set to OFF to reduce ghost images when recording
pictures with fast motion. Does not work with S-Video
input pictures.

Hybrid VBR Resolution
The picture recorded to a DVD-RAM can be smoothed out.
(Refer to “VBR” on page 70.)

● Automatic:

Resolution is adjusted automatically to match the
picture when recording and noise is reduced over the
block.

RAM

● Fixed:

Recording is performed with fixed resolution. This
allows smoother recording of fast moving pictures, etc.

Still Mode
Select the type of picture shown when you pause play.
(Refer to “Frames and fields” on page 70.)

● Automatic
● Field:

Select if jittering occurs when “Automatic” is selected.

● Frame:

Select small text or fine patterns cannot be seen clearly
when “Automatic” is selected.

Seamless Play
Plays chapters in the play list in a continuous playback method.
● Seamless Play does not work with programs recorded in

LPCM or when using Quick View.

● On:

Enables smoother playback. (Does not function during
Quick View and when the audio of chapters varies.
Also, playback position may change.)

● Off:

Playback can be done with greater precision, but
continuous play may be momentarily halted.

Line-in NR
Reduces video tape noise while dubbing.
● When noise reduction is on, “3-D Y/C Separation” (see above)

does not work regardless of the setting.

● Automatic:

Noise reduction only works on input picture from a video
tape.

● On:

Noise reduction works for any input video.

● Off:

Noise reduction is off. Select when you want to record
input as is.

Black Level Control
Select normal, lighter or darker for adjusting the black level control to the desired setting for picture enhancement.

Record level
Adjusts the black level of the signal recorded to a DVD.

● Lighter

● Darker

Playback level
Adjusts the black level of the DVD playback signal.

● Lighter

● Normal

● Darker
