setting this figure to

will give you a 2-mea-

sure count-in.

6

Now when you play back or record the song,
you will hear the metronome sound for 2
measures before the

Intro

section starts.

7

When you come to mix down the song,
remember to turn off the metronome, and to
start the mixdown at measure 3 of the song.

TIP

It may be useful for you to put a mark named

Intro

at measure 3, beat 1, so that you can easily start play-
back from that point.

Key transpose

There are times when you want to transpose the
whole of a pattern.

For example, you may have written a blues song pat-
tern in E for practicing, but now you want to practice
in B.

Of course, you could go through every part and drop
every section in every instrument by a semitone, but
there’s an easier way.

1

With the tone generator selected to be in

Pattern

mode (

SYSTEM

menu), press

the

MENU

key, navigate to

PATTERN

, and

press

ENTER

.

2

Use the cursor pad to scroll down to

KeyTr

(key transpose).

3

Now use the wheel to adjust the pattern up or
down by up to three octaves (36 semitones).

TIP

You can do this while you are playing back the pattern,
to allow you to “preview” your changes while you are
playing or singing along. This allows you to find the key
which is best for your voice, for example.

The bass and the two instruments will be transposed
by the amount you specify, but the drums (naturally)
will not.

Also, note that although you have changed the pitch
of the playback, the chords that you have input will
appear the same on the display. Returning to our
blues which we wrote in E, if the transpose value is
set to -5, the playback will actually be in B, but if you
look at the chords in the

Chord

sub-menu, they

will still read

E

,

A7

,

B7

, etc.
