Upgrading the software
1 With the new software loaded, the Pocketstu-
dio 5 disconnected from the computer, and
turned off, press and hold down the
REW and
RECORD keys. While holding them down,
turn on the Pocketstudio 5. The display
shows:
2 Release the REW and RECORD keys. The dis-
play shows Card Inserted! and then
changes to:
3 Press the ENTER key. The display briefly
shows Loading... and then changes:
4 Press ENTER one more time. The software
starts updating:
The update operation will take up to 10 min-
utes or so to complete
NOTE
IMPORTANT: DO NOT turn off or unplug the Pocketstu-
dio 5 while this operation is taking place.
You cannot use the Pocketstudio 5 while the operation
is taking place. Do not connect or disconnect any equip-
ment until the update operation is finished.
When the operation is finished, the Pocketstudio 5
automatically reboots and the display shows:
The display shows Err Ptrn File before
loading the song (formatting the card deleted the
MIDI pattern file—this is not an error, and we
explain below how to restore this file).
5 Turn off the Pocketstudio 5.
Restoring your data
Now you must restore any data you backed up and
the MIDI pattern files.
1 With the Pocketstudio 5 connected to your
computer, press and hold the
ENTER key,
and turn on the Pocketstudio 5 in USB mode.
2 Copy the PATTERN.001 file from your com-
puter to the Pocketstudio 5 “drive”.
3 Copy the song folders and their contents
from your computer to the Pocketstudio 5
“drive”. Note that if you backed up a song
called
SONG1 , you can delete the SONG1
on the Pocketstudio 5 card before you make
this copy.
4 The update procedure has automatically cre-
ated
MP3 and SMF folders. If you backed up
these folders earlier, copy the contents of the
MP3 folder from your computer into the MP3
folder on the Pocketstudio 5 “drive”. Copy
the contents of the
SMF folder from your com-
puter to the Pocketstudio 5 “drive”.
5 To remove the Pocketstudio 5 from the com-
puter, follow the appropriate instructions in
"Format the card" on page 5.
6 Turn off your Pocketstudio 5 and turn it on
again.
Congratulations! You can now start using your
Pocketstudio 5 with all the new features of the ver-
sion 2 software.
