This guide describes the new features and differences
between the new version 2 software for the
TASCAM Pocketstudio 5, and the software described
in the manual.
Please make sure that you read these Release Notes
together with the other documentation to ensure that
you understand what’s changed, and what your Pock-
etstudio 5 can do for you to help you make music.
Specifically, the changes to the existing documenta-
tion are:
• Some new features introduced in 1.13, chiefly the
ability to record and store more than four songs—
"New features in v1.13" on page 8.
• New improved ways of mixing down recorded.
multitrack material and playing back MP3 files—
"New MP3 mode features" on page 9.
• A program list, making it possible to play back
your own, and pre-recorded MP3 files, in any
order—"Program list" on page 12.
• New features for managing MP3 files and multi-
track songs—"Managing songs and MP3s" on
page 14.
• New functions for recording, including stereo pan
selection, metronome and count-in facilities for
acoustic material, and the ability to jam along to
your favorite MP3s—"Other new functions" on
page 17.
• We have also listed some small corrections to the
existing documentation which may be useful to
you—"Corrections to the original manual" on
page 7.
• We have also included step-by-step instructions on
how to upgrade your Pocketstudio 5.

Updating your Pocketstudio 5
Check the version of your Pocketstudio 5 software as
described below.
If the version is 1.01 or 1.13 you should upgrade to
the latest version of the software (2.04).
To check the current software version installed on
your Pocketstudio 5, turn on the unit, and examine
the software version number shown on the bottom
right of the display:
If you do not see V2.04 here, you will need to fol-
low the upgrade procedures below.
NOTE
After you have upgraded the Pocketstudio 5 as
described in the following section, the first time that
you insert a card that has been formatted using a previ-
ous version of the Pocketstudio 5 software, you will see
messages (e.g.
Making PGM file ) appear
briefly on the display as the Pocketstudio 5 updates the
card.
