5 – New MP3 mode features

The procedure described in “Mixdown” on page 20
of the Getting Started manual has changed somewhat
from that described in the manual.

It is now easier to produce different mixes of the
same song.

As a brief reminder, remember that the MP3 key has
three states showing the current Pocketstudio 5 mode
(press the key to cycle between these different
modes):

Off: tracking mode

In this mode, you can

record the tracks, etc. before you do the mixdown.

Red: Mix to MP3 mode

You combine the

recorded tracks and the tone generator into a stereo
MP3 file.

Green: MP3 playback mode

You can play-

back MP3 files, either the ones you have created
yourself through the mixdown process or ones you
have imported, singly or in a program list.

When the

MP3

key is flashing, the Pocketstudio 5 is

in a “transition state”, changing from one mode to
another. As it changes from one mode to another, the
display shows the new mode.

Entering Mix to MP3 mode

In this mode you can either mix your recorded tracks
down to stereo 128kbps MP3 files, or to use the
Pocketstudio 5 as a portable stereo recorder (for live
recordings, interviews, etc., using the two inputs to
record directly to MP3).

1

After you have finished recording the tracks,
press the

MP3

key so that it flashes red.

The display shows:

and then changes to:

The

MP3

key is still flashing red at this point.

2

Now you have a choice. You can either:

Press

ENTER

immediately to create a new

mix called

STMIX

. Any existing MP3 file

called

STMIX

will be overwritten.

or

Use the wheel to select an existing MP3 file
which will be overwritten by the new mix.

and/or

Use the cursor pad and wheel to edit the dis-
played name to create a new MP3 file.

NOTE

If you have entered the mixdown mode by accident
(you didn’t mean to press the

MP3

key), press

EXIT

at

this point, and you will return to the tracking mode (the

MP3

key is unlit).

3

If you have used the first or second method
described above, and the

MP3

key is still

flashing, press

ENTER

so that the

MP3

key

lights red steadily.

4

If you chose to use an existing MP3 filename
for your new mix, the

MP3

key continues to

flash, and the display shows:

Press

ENTER

to overwrite, or

EXIT

to return

to the previous display.

Now you can either mix recorded tracks ("Mixing
down" on page 10) or reco
rd a stereo MP3 file ("MP3
recording" on page 10
).
