Construction/Agriculture - Additional Important Information

Important Notes

1.

The following optional components are approved by this Guideline. All options may not be available on every axle model.

a.

Driver-Controlled Differential Lock

b. Oil Pump

c. Low Maintenance Wheel Ends (

LMS

)

2.

The use of

NoSpin

differentials in any drive axles will result in the exclusion of

axle shafts

from warranty consideration.

Certain other carrier components may also be excluded from warranty consideration if their failure is deemed to be the result

of NoSPIN use. Depending on axle loading, the NoSPIN can cause all torque to be directed to one axle shaft resulting in

overload and potential failure. “NoSPIN

®

” is a registered trademark of Tractech, Inc., a Division of Dana Corporation.

3.

Drive Axle application approval and allowable gross axle weight is based on the vehicle suspension selected. Dana CVP is

not responsible for the durability of any bracket attached to the axle housing(s) unless produced by Dana Holding

Corporation. In addition, Dana CVP is responsible for the integrity of the bracket attachment only if the bracket is installed

by Dana or if the bracket is installed by the vehicle manufacturer following detailed recommended procedures provided by

Dana through prior agreement.

4.

For certain suspension models, Dana may require the use of an increased housing wall thickness. Refer to the Housing

Structural Rating Section of this Guideline or contact Dana CVP Application Engineering for specific requirements.

5.

It is the responsibility of the vehicle manufacturer and/or the dealer to accurately convey all approved axle loading

information to the body builder if the chassis is sold as incomplete. It is also the responsibility of the final vehicle builder to

insure the assigned tagged values for

GAWR

and

GVW

/

GCW

do not exceed those limits approved by this vocational

Guideline. Dana is not responsible for non-compliance to this request.

6.

In vehicles equipped with

driving steer axles

, the wheel speed mismatch between the front and rear axles is a concern. This

mismatch is affected by the front and rear axle ratio as well as tire revolutions per mile (TRPM). The % of mismatch

calculation is:

% mismatch = (Rear axle ratio x rear axle tire TRPM) - (front drive axle ratio x front tire TRPM)

Rear axle ratio x rear tire TRPM

Dana CVP Application Engineering requires this mismatch not exceed 1.5% for application approval.

7.

Pusher

and/or

tag

axles, if used, should comply with the

Federal Bridge Formula

. When loaded, vehicles with

l

iftable axles

are limited to a 5 MPH speed maximum when operating with these axles in the raised position at the job site. Refer to the

Housing Structural Rating Section for maximum allowable

site travel

ratings.

8.

Drive axles configured with single tires and

outset wheels

that increase track over standard require special consideration.

Allowable gross axle weight ratings may have to be reduced from the nominal rating to compensate for the increase in

housing stress created through the use of outset wheels. Refer to the Housing Structural Rating Section of this Guideline for

additional information regarding increased track ratings.

9.

Oil pump and

Driver Controlled Wheel Differential Lock(s)

are recommended for Construction operations where vehicles

operate in areas of poor traction. The use of differential lock at speeds higher than 25 mph is not recommended by Dana. The

OEM is responsible for displaying in-cab information citing that the handling characteristics may be compromised when the

diff lock is engaged.

10.

For

tridem

equipped vehicles, the allowable gross axle load is to be equally distributed on all three axles. The use of liftable

or load reducing suspensions is not permitted.

11.

Vehicle testing of any nature voids the warranty on Spicer

®

drive axles.
