NOTE:

Administrator or Universal Replicator for Mainframe write access to the Remote Web

Console Java applet program is required to perform Universal Replicator for Mainframe
operations. Users without Administrator or Universal Replicator for Mainframe write access
can only view Universal Replicator for Mainframe information.

About the license of Universal Replicator for Mainframe:

To use Universal Replicator for Mainframe, you must install not only a license for Universal
Replicator for Mainframe but also a license for TrueCopy for Mainframe. In addition, you also
need a license for HP XP Universal Replicator 4x4 Extended CT if you run a 3DC system.

Connection with an XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array

Universal Replicator for Mainframe can execute remote copy operations by connecting an
XP24000/XP20000 Disk Array with an XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array. Specifically, the
following configurations are supported:

System configuration for remote copy operation using Universal Replicator for Mainframe
from an XP24000/XP20000 Disk Array to an XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array.

System configuration for remote copy operation using Universal Replicator for Mainframe
from an XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array to an XP24000/XP20000 Disk Array.

NOTE:

For detailed information about the connection with an XP12000/XP10000 Disk

Array, see

“Configuration where XP12000/XP10000 and XP24000/XP20000 Disk Arrays

are Connected” (page 106)

.

Disk Track Format

Universal Replicator for Mainframe supports the following requirements on the disk track format,
which must be ensured by the user. Universal Replicator for Mainframe cannot detect exceptions
to these requirements. The primary storage system will abort the Universal Replicator for Mainframe
initial copy operation if the track format for both the primary data volume and secondary data
volume does not meet the following requirements:

The TrueCopy for Mainframe primary data volume and secondary data volume must have the
same track format.

Record zero (R0) must be standard format, with a key length of zero and a data length of
eight. The primary storage system will abort the initial copy operation if R0 is not standard
format.

The CCHH (logical cylinder address and logical head address) of R0 must be identical to the
physical cylinder address and physical head address of the track.

The CCHH of each user record in a track must be unique.

One-to-One Volume Copy Operations

Universal Replicator for Mainframe requires a one-to-one relationship between the volumes of the
volume pairs. A volume (LDEV) can only be assigned to one Universal Replicator for Mainframe
pair at a time. However, when creating a Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair for the delta
resync operation, you can specify the secondary data volume of a Universal Replicator for
Mainframe pair that is not for the delta resync operation as the secondary data volume of the
Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair for the delta resync operation. In that case, you need to
create a mirror to the delta-resync pair and the non-delta-resync pair. For detailed information
about the delta resync operation, see Universal Replicator for Mainframe Delta Resync Operation
and TrueCopy for Mainframe Synchronous (3DC Multi-target Configuration).
