N - numeric loopback channel select
Pressing N then entering the desired I/O channel to test (range 01-
16 for inputs, 01-32 for outputs), allows a specific I/O channel to be
targeted for testing. This mode might be used to check for a suspected
faulty cable.
S - start test
Pressing S after an I/O channel is displayed will initiate a complete
check of the Pathfinder’s internal electronics and interconnections as they
relate to the selected channel. The test takes a few seconds for each
channel, as the Pathfinder sequentially re-patches the crosspoint devices
to try all possible patch combinations that could affect that channel. ‘Okay’
is displayed when the test is complete, allowing you to increment or
decrement to another channel, return to the previous menu level, or exit. If
a channel is found to be defective, the display will show “Timeout error”
and where it failed. Generally when the failure point is Send 01 and Return
01, it indicates a bad connection or I/O device. A value higher than 01
probably indicates a problem with the crosspoint device. Run the
Crosspoint Tests to verify this.
T - troubleshoot start
Pressing T forces the test signal on indefinitely to permit a
technician to troubleshoot a defective channel. When the problem is
corrected the ‘Okay’ message will be displayed.
F -- Patch File Initialization
The Pathfinder CPU card can hold up to seven
different patch file configurations in non-volatile
memory. These can all be cleared by pressing "F"
and responding ‘Y’ to the Yes or No prompt. The
function will take a couple of seconds to execute,
then ‘Completed!’ will be displayed.
C -- Copy Operating System from EPROM to Flash
Normally, the Pathfinder CPU’s operating software,
or firmware, executes from Flash RAM. If for any
reason you suspect that this firmware is corrupted,
you can run from EPROM instead by turning off DIP
switch #8 in the suspect Output Module. This
function can then be initiated to place a copy of
the original (shipped) firmware into Flash. You
must then turn DIP switch #8 back on to resume
executing from Flash. The current run mode and
