Use of Combustible Crucible C 14

The Decomposition Vessel AOD 1.1 provides for the use of combustible crucibles.
Using Combustible Crucible C 14 considerably improves the burning of a sample.
The combustible crucible is made of acetobutyrate and has an energy input of 5000
Joule in the decomposition vessel. When a combustible crucible is used, a cotton
thread is not required.

When a Combustible Crucible C 14 is used, the decomposition vessel must have
the Support for Combustible Crucible C 5010.4 (accessory). The sample can then
be weighed directly into the crucible. The combustible crucible must be placed in the
crucible holder so that it is in direct contact with the ignition wire. To ensure this, clip
the combustible crucible under the ignition wire.

When ignition is initiated and the wire starts to glow, the crucible is ignited, and the
sample burnt from all sides. The crucible is completely destroyed. Experience has
shown, that the additional energy input from a combustible crucible, with the supply
of oxygen from all sides, results in better combustion than in a quartz crucible.

The combustible crucible has the same dimensions as a Quartz Crucible C 4. Even
if the AOD decomposition vessel is equipped for combustible crucibles, a quartz
crucible can still be used.
