2 Place left hand on the back side of the pole just above the
obstacle and grasp outer strap near D-ring.
3 Lean toward pole slightly to allow some slack in the Wood Pole
Fall Restrict Device (WPFRD) – this helps in disconnecting the
outer strap D-ring from the carabiner.
4 With right hand, pull carabiner away from pole slightly to allow
slack on the Wood Pole Fall Restrict Device (WPFRD), rotate
knurled gate of carabiner to open carabiner and disconnect
outer strap D-ring from carabiner.
5 Remove grasp from carabiner with right hand once the D-ring
is disconnected from carabiner.
6 Place right hand on back side of pole while left hand passes
outer strap down and under the obstacle.
7 Position left hand on backs ide of pole while holding outer strap
and grasp carabiner sub-assembly with right hand.
8 Connect outer strap D-ring to carabiner.
9 Descend pole – See instructions for descending the pole.
10. ExPECTED FALL DISTANCE
The Wood Pole Fall Restrict Device (WPFRD) has been designed
to meet CSA Z259.14-01 requirements for Fall Restrict Equipment
for Wood Pole Climbing. The total fall distance when used on dry
wood poles will be equal to the distance from the pole to the waist
when positioned horizontally.

9. PROPER LOCATIONS TO CUT THE WOOD
POLE FALL RESTRICT DEVICE (WPFRD) IN THE
EVENT OF A POLE TOP RESCUE
In the event of a pole top rescue, the Wood Pole Fall Restrict
Device (WPFRD) may be cut in one of three locations:
1 The single-fixed end with snap hook- cut as close as possible to
metal strap of snap hook assembly. Cutting in this location will
allow the single end to pull through stirrup and will disconnect
from around the pole.
2 The other two locations are either side of the double inner strap
as shown.
CAUTION: FOR GROUND PERSONNEL- Wood Pole Fall
Restrict Device (WPFRD) will fall free from the pole when the
inner strap is cut.
