6.5 WiFi Connection

Wireless Ethernet connection is possible using an approved USB wireless device. The recorder is compatible with
802.11 n/b/g USB WiFi adaptors that use the Ralink RT2870 chip set. The following have been tested and approved -
Ambicom WL250N-USB and Ambicom WL150-nUSB.

The USB wireless device can be plugged into the front or rear USB connector on the recorder. Note that if the rear
connector is used, the USB selector switch on the under rear of the recorder must be switched to use the USB Type A

Port - looking at the rear of the recorder the switch must be over to the left.

The user needs to have a wireless access point or router within range of the Recorder with a
known SSID (Service Set Identifier - the Wireless broadcast name, preferably the SSID should
be broadcast). The recorder

supports 64

bit WEP Encryption, WPA, WPA2 and

Mixed Mode

Security

.

6.5.1 Installation

Ensure the wireless router is on. Turn on the Recorder, wait for it to stabilize. If the wireless router is open (has no
security) skip to the next step else on the recorder, proceed to the System Admin Menu (Section

5.7

) and then the File Explorer menu (Section

5.7.6

). Press the Keypad button shown right to bring

up the keypad which you will need to enter passwords and other information.

Install the USB wireless device into one of the USB sockets on the recorder.
After a few seconds the recorder will pop up the RT28701 Wireless setup
window shown right. The recorder will scan for visible wireless access points
and display them in a list. If the SSID is not broadcast you need to select "Add
New". If the SSID is broadcast by the wireless router it will be identified in the
list. You may need to wait a few seconds while the scan is performed. Double
tap the correct Wireless Router.

This will bring up the Wireless Properties
dialog box shown left. Enter the SSID if it is
not there by default (unbroadcast) Select the
encryption type - WEP or None and select the
Authentication type. Uncheck the box for "The key is provided automatically". This
will allow you to enter the Network key - see right. You need to know the network
key and the key index (from your router). You will
also need to drag the keyboard around to access
all parts of the screen. When all the data has been
entered tap the "OK" button at the top right of the
popup window.

This will return to the original popup window and
the status will be shown as "Connecting.." then
finally "Connected" to the wireless router. The
signal strength will be indicated below and the
Wireless SSID will be indicated as (preferred).

IMPORTANT

At this point click the IP Information tab. Note the IP Address. This is the IP
address that the recorder will respond to for all Ethernet activity. See below.

The IP Address can also be seen in the

System Information Window

.
