• About automatic reduction of flash output

If an EOS-dedicated Speedlite is used for a subject backlit by an overhead

light, the flash output is reduced automatically to avoid having an unnatural­
looking exposure. This is called automatic reduction of flash output.

• In the Basic Zone modes, flash photography Is as easy as with the built-in

flash.

• Using the < DEP > mode with flash gives the same result as the < P > mode.

High-Speed Sync (FP Flash)

When Speedlite 420EX is set to the high-speed sync mode < 5

synchronize at all shutter speeds, even those faster than 1/125 sec. When

High-speed sync is useful in the cases listed below.
• High-speed sync works in Creative Zone modes.

(1) When you want to use fill flash for a portrait and maintain background

blur with a large aperture.

(2) When you want to create a catchlight in the subject’s eyes.

(3) When you want to use fill flash to eliminate shadows.
