3.2.2.2 Global Spanning Tree Parameters
To enable the Spanning Tree function, select "1" or "Spanning Tree" from the Switch Configuration
Menu. The Spanning Tree menu appears as shown in Figure 22. Select option "1," Global Spanning
Tree Parameters." Reference Figure 23. From the Global Spanning Tree Parameters screen, select "1"
or "Enable Spanning Tree."

This screen also allows other parameters to be adjusted:

Priority set a number between 1 and 65534 for the bridge; 1 is the highest priority and 65534 is
the lowest. The bridge with the highest priority is the root. If any two or more Bridges have the
same priority, the MAC addresses define the priority.

Hello Time (sec) sets the time interval between the generation of BPDUs by the root. This
parameter is used if the bridge becomes the root of the Spanning Tree.

Forward Delay (sec) sets the time interval between port state transitions (Learning to Forward).
This parameter is used if the bridge becomes the root of the Spanning Tree.

Max Age (sec) sets the timeout value for information transmitted by the root. If the root goes off-
line, the bridge needs to timeout the stored configuration information and start again. This
parameter is used if the bridge becomes the root of the Spanning Tree.

Main Menu Returns to the Main Menu.
