passed to EVC as defined in MEF10.2. The 9145E has the capability to peer some L2CP service
frames such as link OAM.

The 9145E can detect and handle any of the L2CP service frames listed in Table 5-1, regardless
of whether the frame is tagged or untagged.

The 9145E detects L2CP service frames by checking the MAC destination address, Ethertype,
and Subtype (if it exists) fields of the frame. This combination identifies the type of L2CP service
frame. For two service frame types, STP (STP, MSTP, RSTP) and Provider Bridge, the 9145E
only checks the MAC destination address.

Table 5-1. L2CP Service Frame Protocol Identification Fields

See “L2CP Service Frame Processing Options in MEN” on page 68 for more information.

If a service frame does not contain the values listed in the Table 5-1 or the filter is not enabled,
the 9145E handles the frame according to the same VLAN rules/Port Base VLAN control as any
other packet. Packets entering the NID will be discarded and not forwarded or sent to the CPU,
when the MAC Destination Address matches the corresponding filter in the table and the
EtherType and SubType fields inside the packet also match.

Example 1:

Let’s say you set enable the STP, MSTP, RSTP port filter.

If the 9145E receives a frame with a MAC Destination Address of 01-80-C2-00-00-00, it will
discard it. In this case the EtherType and Subtype field values don’t matter because this filter
includes all STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) frames, including MSTP and RSTP.

Example 2:

Let’s say you enable the Pause port filter.

If the 9145E receives a frame with a MAC Destination Address of 01-80-C2-00-00-01 an
Ethertype field of 0x8808, it will discard it. In this case only the Ethertype field has to match since
there is no value for the Subtype field. It will drop with any value in the Subtype field as long as
the other fields match.

Example 3:

Let’s say you enable the LACP port filter.
